About us
Built by boaters, for boaters — in the Pacific Northwest
Nautilus Filter™ was designed, engineered, and is manufactured by boaters in the Pacific Northwest. The company is based in Bellingham, Washington, and every Nautilus Filter™ that ships is Made in USA.
"Good enough" wasn't good enough
Like boat owner, we relied on conventional holding tank vent filters to keep our boats smelling clean. And we watched those filters fail — not eventually, but fast. When other holding tank vent filters failed us in just a couple of months, we knew "good enough" wasn't good enough.
So we set out to design a completely new solution — one that didn't just reduce the smell, but eliminated it, and kept eliminating it well into a second boating season.
Every part of the kit had a reason to be there
The kit had to include everything needed for a complete installation, and it had to be easy enough that any boat owner could do it themselves. That meant no guesswork on hardware, no separate trip to the store, and no confusing instructions.
We also wanted the ability to easily refill the filter with our own proprietary activated carbon blend — saving the significant cost of replacing a whole new unit every season, and eliminating the plastic waste that comes with throwing one away.
The result is the Nautilus Filter™: a patent-pending, Five-Chamber Carbon Helix™ system with six or more times the air-to-carbon contact time, giving it much extended efficiency in odor removal compared to conventional holding tank vent filters — engineered specifically to target hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), the compound responsible for the worst of marine holding tank odor.
Nautilus Filter™ is a product of Kore13 LLC, founded and led by Joe Koreis, based in Bellingham, Washington. Joe and the team built Nautilus Filter™ the way most good marine products get built — by living with the problem, getting frustrated with the existing options, and deciding to engineer something better.
Why we built it this way
Watch Joe walk through why the Nautilus Filter™ was built the way it was, and what makes the Five-Chamber Carbon Helix™ different from anything else on the market.
Built to last, refilled instead of replaced
Every Nautilus Filter™ ships with 316 stainless steel hardware, a built-in silicone bypass valve to help prevent tank collapse during aggressive pump-outs, and the same refillable design philosophy that started this company in the first place: build it once, refill it for years.
